Femmes are strong as hell. Although women have faced a lot of obstacles these past few years, we are still actively and fiercely combating inequality. Pro-femme movements such as #MeToo and Time’s Up have made headlines recently and we began to see more women of color on the big screen like Kelly Marie Tran in The Last Jedi.

In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, here’s a look inspired by Battle of the Sexes, a biographical film staring Emma Stone and Steve Carell based on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Billie Jean King is a former World No. 1 tennis player, and a pioneer of women and LGBT rights.

I’ve also rounded up a few organizations and causes to support femmes!

Lipslut

Lipslut sells matte liquid lipsticks and donates 50% of its earnings to civil right organizations. The lipsticks are available in two shades, F*ck Trump and F*ck Hollywood, which are respectively a pink mauve and a red shade. F*ck Trump donates 50% of its earnings to help civil right organizations targeted by the Trump Administration and F*ck Hollywood goes towards groups battling sexual assault.

#Happy Period

That dreadful time of the month is especially difficult for those who are low-income without access to menstrual hygiene products. #Happy Period donates those much needed products to women who are homeless or living in poverty including LGBT, non-binary, disabled, and veterans.

Planned Parenthood

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be supporting an organization that provides high quality low cost reproductive healthcare to whoever needs it. Planned Parenthood provides care to women or men regardless of income, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. Chances are that someone in your life has greatly benefited from PP. Although, it shouldn’t matter if something doesn’t directly affects us, we should care regardless.

Girls Not Brides

Every year, 12 million girls under the age of 18 are forced into marriage with an adult. These are children, just little girls, who are subjected to a vicious cycle of abuse and poverty. No child should be trapped into a marriage and forced to have a baby when they are still just a baby themself. Girls Not Brides is a partnership of more than 900 civil society groups from over 95 countries committed to ending child marriage.

The Trevor Project

Did you know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people ages 10-24? And LGBTQ youth are almost five times as likely to attempt suicide compared to hereosexual youth? The Trevor Project provides 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention from trained counselers to LGBTQ youth.

Women’s Sports Foundation

This foundation is found by Billie Jean King herself. The Women’s Sports Foundation supports femme athletes by offering a variety of initiatives such as establishing programs for disadvantaged youth girls and offering grants to aspiring athletes to pursue their full potential.
