Pattern x Pattern, Day x Day Lookbook

There are things you shouldn’t mix like alcohol and ibuprofen but patterns are not one of them! Mixing patterns are often avoided for the fear of an outfit being too loud or the prints clashing with each other, but when done with care different patterns can really compliment each other.

look 1

The secret to successfully mixing prints is color. Color coordination is everything. Colors are a visual feast but certain combinations can look too harsh together or look like you’re a fanatic for a specific sports team. In my outfit pictured, I paired a floral bodysuit with a black and white grid skirt. Pink, blue, white, and black all mesh well together with the blue flowers really popping out against the lighter colors.

look 2

I tied the outfit together with pastel pink mesh socks and black shoes, colors that compliment the rest of the pieces. For the shoes, I could have gone with other colors such as brown, beige, white, or pastel blue since they match the patterns. Something you should not do when mixing patterns is repeating the pattern as well. For example, a plaid shirt and plaid skirt would be tartan overload!

I hope that y’all enjoyed this look and have fun mixing up patterns!
